Referral codes that pay in store credit.
Influencer discount codes leak onto coupon sites and eat margin on the first order. Stork referral codes reward the shopper with store credit instead, so the reward pulls them back for a second order. Give every influencer or partner their own code and see who drove what.
- One code per influencer or partner
- Enter it in the cart, checkout or Thank you page
- Works for guest checkouts too
Example referral code block and code list
How it works.
- Create a code for each partner. Add a code, a label like the influencer's name, and the success message shoppers see. Codes aren't case-sensitive.
- The shopper enters it. In a Referral Code block on your cart page, on the Thank you page after they order, or at checkout on Shopify Plus.
- Stork tags them. When the order is placed, the customer is tagged with the code, like
referral:SUMMER25. Entering a code and abandoning the cart earns nothing. - A rule pays the reward. One click creates a cashback rule for that code, or for every code at once, set to reward each customer once. Pick the amount and switch it on.
- Even on the Thank you page. Forgot to enter the code at checkout? Shoppers have 24 hours to enter it on the Thank you page and still get rewarded for that order.
- First code wins. A customer keeps the first referral code they use, so partners can't poach each other's customers.
The reward goes to the shopper who used the code. Track which partner drove each customer with the referral tag in Shopify.
Who it's for.
You work with creators
Give each creator a code their audience will actually use, and reward that audience with credit that brings them back.
You run partner deals
Gyms, clubs and stockists get their own codes. Give one partner's audience a bigger reward with its own rule.
You want referrals without codes leaking
A code that pays out in store credit is worth less on a coupon site than a straight discount, and it rewards a second order.
The referral is a tag on the Shopify customer, and the reward is native Shopify store credit in their account. Segment by referral tag in Shopify like any other tag.
Referral code questions.
How do referral codes with store credit work on Shopify?
A shopper enters a code in a Referral Code block. When they order, Stork tags them with that code, and a cashback rule limited to that tag credits them once the order is paid. The credit lands in their Shopify account, ready for their next order.
Where can shoppers enter a referral code?
In the Referral Code theme block on your cart page or any page of your theme, and on the Thank you page, on every Shopify plan. Shopify Plus stores can also add the block to checkout. Accelerated checkout buttons that skip the checkout page can't show the checkout block.
Do referral codes work for guest checkout?
Yes. For a guest, Shopify matches or creates a customer from the email they entered. That customer is tagged and credited, and they sign in with the same email to spend it.
Can a customer use more than one referral code?
No. A customer keeps the first referral code they receive. A logged-in customer who already used a code sees "Referral code already applied".
Which Stork Credit plans include referral codes?
Grow ($20/month) and Unlimited ($60/month). On Free the Referral codes page is greyed out, and the blocks don't accept codes until you upgrade.
Codes that pay twice.
Free to install. Native to Shopify. No points, no codes, no dev work.
